The Ancestors of Elizabeth "Lizzy" Pathosica Mallory

Kennedy McCampbell Crockett was a Foreign Ambassador in the 1960s and 1970s. Thanks to his second wife, Lelah Eastwood Crockett (who was also a member of the State Department) we have an extensive family tree for him, including a Mallory line that descends from Roger Mallory (1632-1696) and his son, Thomas Mallory (1674-1753), brother to our John Mallory* (1705-1774).
Lizzy married Samuel Abraham Crockett in 1877. They and their family of six children moved from Missouri to Texas in 1900. Lizzy was the daughter of Thomas W. Mallory and Isabel Carter. As with our Mallory line, Thomas and Isabel were born in Virginia but arrived in Missouri early in the 1800s, where their nine children were born.
Thomas W. Mallory (1817-1900) was the son of Edward Mallory and Lucy Humston, the fifth of ten children. While there was some difficulty proving the link between Thomas W. and Edward, in a letter from Lelah
in 1990, she wrote, "My source for naming Edward Mallory as the father of Thomas W. is a strange tale. Long-time friends of mine retired in Ogden, and their next-door neighbors are the Newlands, whom we met when we visited. Nancy Newland is into genealogy and works on her own family. Her mother-in-law Marsa Newland (whom I haven't met) is also into genealogy and works on the Newlands. Marsa is the great-granddaughter of Lucy A. Mallory, Thomas W's oldest daughter. Nancy sent me info from Marsa, and I have sent info back the same way. That's how I first heard of Edward Mallory...." Lelah enclosed a copy of the Last Will and Testament of Edward Mallory. According to another source, this will was written in 1831 in Fauquier County, Virginia, but was proved in Marion County, Missouri, in 1838. It mentions Thomas W and several of his brothers, as well as sisters' husbands.
Edward Mallory (abt 1782-1838) was born in Virginia, the first child of Clement Pynes Mallory (abt 1732-1799)and Nancy "Ann" Randolph, who were born and died in Virginia. Clement P. was the son of Philip Mallory (1715-1811) and Lucinda Pynes of Virginia, and Philip was the son of Thomas Mallory (1674-1753) and Elizabeth Higgason, of Virginia. This Thomas was the brother of our ancestor, John, and both were sons of Roger Mallory (1632-1696) and wife, Jane, from England, settler of Virginia.
All of this is another example of the help a genealogical researcher receives from family and friends. Lelah Joy Eastwood Crockett was invaluable in making the connection between Thomas W. and Edward Mallory.
