The Parents of John and Grace (Smith) Mallory
Background Information
John (b. 1733) and Grace Mallory of Orange County, Virginia and Caswell County, North Carolina, were the parents of John Mallory (b. 1760, m. Sarah Sawyer in 1778). John and Sarah emigrated to Kentucky and were the parents of William Mallory (b. 1787, name of first wife unknown). William and his first wife were the parents of John Mallory (b. 1815, m. Eliza Hackney c. 1837). The family of William and his second wife, Lucinda Scott (m. 1820) and their children emigrated to Missouri. John and Eliza and were the parents of eight children, including William F., Mandy, Ben, Perry and Thomas, who all left Missouri during the Civil War and went to Texas.
William Mallory died in Missouri in 1851. Dade County Probate Court records name his wife and children. (Please see post dated 5 Oct 2023 for more details.)
John Mallory died in 1824, in Christian County, Kentucky. His Last Will and Testament was written on 12 June 1824 and proved in court on 5 August 1824. The will names his wife, Sarah, and children, including William.
John Mallory died in 1795, in Caswell County, North Carolina. The court ordered an inventory of his Goods and Chattels in October of that year. The distribution of the property names his children, including John, who was the executor. (Please see post dated 8 Oct 2023 for more details.)
New Information
Grace Smith is given as the wife of John Mallory (b. 1733) in the Mallory DNA Study (Please see post dated 30 Oct 2023 for details.) The study states that she was born about 1735 and baptized on 8 June 1735 in Gloucester County, Virginia, in the Abingdon Parish. The Abingdon Parish records do not seem to be available online, but further information can be found at the Family Search Abingdon Parish website.
Probate records for Stephen K. Smith names his wife, Mary, and children, including Gracy Mallory. Stephen K. Smith's will was written 27 Feb 1781 and proved 27 May 1784.

The same Mallory DNA study gives the name of John Mallory's father as John Mallory (est. birth date 1705) of King and Queen County, Virginia, and St. Thomas Parish. John Mallory's will was written 2 Nov 1772, in Orange County, Virginia,and proved there on 22 Sept 1774. The will names his wife, Anne, and seven children. There are potentially two other children, deceased before the will was written, based on marriage records and grandchildren named in the will.

A Guide to the Microfilm Edition of Records of Ante-Bellum Southern Plantations from the Revolution through the Civil War, held at the University of Virginia Library, records that John Mallory and his son, Nathan, were overseers of roads for Orange County, and that the records include letters from Ann Mallory Smith and Lucy Mallory Bailey, and Henry Mallory:
