Mallory Migrations after 1860
Sarah Mallory, second daughter of John and Eliza, married Simeon Dildy before 1859. Their daughter, Matilda, was born in Dade County, Missouri in 1859, and they appeared in the 1860 Census in Polk, Dade County.
John and Eliza Mallory and the rest of their children* also appeared in the 1860 Census in Polk, Dade County, as did John's brother, William Perkin Mallory with his wife and kids.
In 1862, John and his son, William F. Mallory, joined the Confederate Army. In 1863, Perk was drafted into the Union Army.
Sometime before 1865, Eliza Mallory took her children from Dade County (upper center on map) to Grayson County, Texas (bottom left on map), traveling on foot, by night, to avoid the bushwhackers. This journey was about 350 miles, through the Indian Territories (now Oklahoma). Simeon and Sarah (Mallory) Dildy went south into Arkansas, possibly near Little Rock, Pulasky County (right, 1/3 from the bottom).
John J. William Dildy was born in Arkansas in 1865. His mother, Sarah Mallory Dildy, died in Arkansas shortly after, and Simeon returned to Missouri.
In 1866, Lorana Jane Mallory (daughter of John and Eliza) married William Fine in Grayson County, Texas. Their only son was born two years later.
William F. Mallory married Margaret Thomas in 1867, also in Grayson County, where he stays for the rest of his life.
Amanda "Mandy" Lucy Mallory, daughter of John and Eliza, married John Rickman Miller in 1869, in Grayson County, Texas.
According to the Ben Mallory History by June Ferguson, it took some time for John to catch up with Eliza and the rest of the family in Grayson County, Texas, but a local history describes him as a mason responsible to building chimneys in the area. Both John and Eliza died in Grayson County, Texas, in 1869.
In 1870, Lorana (Mallory) and William Fine went from Grayson County to Williamson County, Texas, a distance of about 230 miles south.
In 1871, Walter, the son of J. Rickman and Mandy (Mallory) Miller, was born in San Saba, Texas. San Saba is about 230 miles south of Grayson, and 100 miles northwest of Williamson.
In 1875, Lorana died in Texas. Her husband, William Fine, and son, left Texas and returned to Greene County, Missouri.
That same year, Mandy (Mallory) Miller went back to Grayson County, Texas, where her son, John K. Miller was born. (John Rickman Miller's parents were longtime residents of Grayson County, as well as Mandy's brother, William F.)
The 1880 Census has the Millers back in San Saba County. (Please see the post dated November 9, 2023 for the story of how this family ended up in Fort Davis and Presidio, Texas, by the 1900 Census.)
In 1882, Benjamin Franklin Mallory married Letitia Owen, in Brown Co., Texas, just north of San Saba.
The next year, their son, Oscar Perry, was born in Little Britches (now Bend), San Saba County, Texas.
Believed to be the wedding photo of Ben and Letitia.
According to records, William Ernest, the son of Thomas Jefferson Mallory and Martha Ellen Lindsay was born in Little Rock, Pulasky County, Arkansas, on 8 March 1884. Tom and Martha Ellen were married fifteen days later, 160 miles west, on 23 March,1884, in Crawford County, Arkansas. Not sure what's up with this.
In 1885, Perry Mallory married Pheobe Neal in Missoula, Montana. June Ferguson theorizes that Perry joined a cattle drive north out of Texas, rather than live with his sister, Mandy, in San Saba, after the death of their parents.
Clay Mallory, son of Ben and Letitia, born in Little Britches, San Saba County, 1885.
In 1886 and 1887, Perry and Pheobe's sons, Walter and Willis, were born in Wallowa, Oregon.

In 1890, Berry Ben, son of Tom and Martha Ellen, was born in Chavez County, New Mexico, the county just north of Eddy.
Harvey, son of Perry and Pheobe, was born in Anatone, Washington, 1890.
Benjamin Owen Mallory, son of Ben and Letitia, was born in Eddy County, New Mexico, in 1891.
Thomas Perry, son of Tom and Martha Ellen, was born in New Mexico, 1892.
Ben and Letitia returned to Texas, where Leon Frank was born in May (a town), Brown County, in 1893. [Correction: Although pretty much every other record says 1893, the 1900 Census says 1892. This is probably correct because he was born in November and Edrie was born in February 1894, which would only be three months later if he was born in '93.]
Tom and Martha Ellen went to Oklahoma Territory, where their son, John A., was born in 1894.
Also in 1894, Edrie Minnie, daughter of Ben and Letitia, was born in Brown County, Texas. Bertha, daughter of Perry and Pheobe, was born in Washington State.
In 1896, Louis Orlando, son of Ben and Letitia, was born in Merkel, Taylor County, Texas, a county just northwest of Brown County.
Perry Elmer, son of Perry and Pheobe, was born in Asotin County, Washington, 1896
Walter Leon, son of Tom and Martha Ellen was born in Savanna, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, 1896.
In 1898, Lila, daughter of Ben and Letitia, was born in Taylor County, Texas.
Roy Benjamin, son of Perry and Pheobe, was born in Washington, 1898.
Ada, daughter of Tom and Martha Ellen, was born in Savanna, Oklahoma, 1898.
The year 1900 was a big one for the Mallory family.
Perry had previously made a claim on a gold mine in the Buffalo Hump area of Idaho County, Idaho. The claim went into litigation but while it was still being settled, one of the big purchasers of the mine bought Perry's share for an undisclosed (in the newspaper) amount of money.
Perry's daughter, Minnie Belle, was born in Washington.
While Letitia and the children waited in Jones County, Texas (just north of Taylor County), Ben went to Waha, Nez Perce, Idaho, (near Idaho County) where the 1900 Census records his occupation as a miner.
The 1900 Census enumerated Perry and Tom and their families in Hansens Ferry, Asotin, Washington.
Ben did not stay long in Idaho.
In 1902, Houston Lee Mallory was born to Ben and Letitia, in Taylor, Texas.
In 1904, Lulu, daughter of Perry and Pheobe was born in Washington.
According to the reports of Ben and Letitia's children recorded by June Ferguson, their family left Texas sometime around 1904 and traveled to Wallowa County, Oregon, via Oklahoma.
Dorothy, daughter of Ben and Letitia, was born in Wallowa, 1905.
In 1907, Leona Lucy, daughter of Ben and Letitia, was born in Bartlett, Wallowa, Oregon.

The 1910 Census enumerated Ben Mallory and family in Grouse, Wallowa, Oregon. Perry and Tom and their families were across the Oregon/Washington border in Asotin, Washington.
*I do not have substantiated information about John and Eliza's oldest child, Elizabeth. Some sources report she married and went back to Tennessee.
